Organizing Thought of the Day
|
Sometimes Plans Don't Always Work Out, But...
|
Sometimes plans, that seem like they may work beautifully, don't always work
out. For instance...
A painfully shy man fell in love with a young woman. He sensed that she felt
the same way, but he couldn't find the courage to ask her out. Finally, he
decided he would mail her a love letter every day for one year, and then ask
her for a date. Faithfully, he followed his plan, and at year's end he was
courageous enough to call her--only to discover that she had gotten married
...to the letter carrier!
Still, it's always better to plan, than not to plan. Here are just five
benefits of planning:
1. Planning is good for your brain. Doing so helps you think and gives
you a path to follow. It also improves your memory. Always plan on paper or
digitally!
2. Planning helps you achieve more goals. It focuses your attention on
the objectives of whatever you're trying to accomplish.
3. Planning saves time. Doing tasks in a random, chaotic fashion is
never a good idea and almost always results in whatever you're doing taking way
longer than it had to take.
4. Planning gives you peace of mind. It eliminates uncertainties. It
helps you consider and anticipate challenges, so that you can work those out
ahead of time.
5. Planning gives you control over the end result of whatever you're trying
to accomplish. Don't allow things to 'just happen.' Be proactive and take
ownership of your goals and actions.
Now, maybe that painfully shy man's plan would have worked if it wasn't such a
long, drawn out plan. If that year of letters was cut down to a week or two, it
just may have worked! Once you have a plan in place, consider the pros and cons
of that plan, and adjust it as needed to help give you the best possible
outcome.
