Organizing Thought of the Day

Do You Have a Goal You're Working On?
|
I recently attended a seminar during which a young man raised his hand in
question to the seminar leader and said, 'I'm not motivated. What should I do?'
The speaker said, 'The first step to being motivated is to have a goal.' The
young man replied, 'Maybe that's my problem. I don't have a goal. What should I
do?' The leader responded, 'Well...if you don't have a goal, your first goal
should be to set a goal.'
Do you have a goal you're working on, or at least a list of goals you want to
accomplish in the short and long term? I always have a list of goals. They're
organized by categories and I write them in a journal.
* Home Organizing Goals
* Work or Business Goals
* Fitness and/or Nutrition Goals
* House Cleaning/House Repair Goals
* Educational Goals
Goals are not tasks. For instance, two goals may be 1) selling your house and
2) moving to another state by next year. There are LOTS of tasks associated
with reaching those goals.
By the way, always have at least one task on your TO DO list that pertains to
one of your goals. As humans, we tend to fall into our regular daily TO DOs,
while those TO DOs that pertain to our goals get put on the backburner. A
goal can only be achieved if it's focused on and worked on.
Set a goal today. Tell a friend what it is. Write it out and place it somewhere
where you'll see it every day. Be sure there is a task related to that goal
on your TO DO list daily.
