  Organizing Thought of the Day

Gnome for the Holidays

About three weeks ago, I visited a friend of mine. We got together at her house to write out Christmas cards together. When I arrived, I handed her a gift... a gnome ornament. I knew she liked gnomes, and she was so happy when she opened the gift bag.

She said, 'We may not put a tree up this year, but I have the perfect place to hang this.'

We then sat down to write out our cards. A few hours later, my friend's better half came home, with Starbucks Peppermint Mocha coffees for us. So sweet! He then proceeded to make us both lunch...bacon wrapped shrimp appetizers and chili for the main dish. Wow. I certainly wasn't expecting that. It was delicious.

My friend then showed her boyfriend the ornament and he said what a perfect gift it was. She said to him, 'I told Maria we didn't put a tree up this year, but I found the perfect spot for the gnome.' He acknowledged that and then proceeded to his office to get some work done.

A few hours later, I went home with my cards completely done...and in such a great mood. It was such a lovely afternoon.

That evening, I received a text message and photo from my friend. She apparently had to run some errands and when she arrived back home, to her surprise, there was a 12 foot tree laying on her living room floor. Her boyfriend thought the tree would be 'a nice addition to the ornament.'

And an hour after that, I received another photo. It was of the 12 foot tree, upright, and all decorated with lights. It had one ornament on it, right in the center of the tree. The gnome!

It truly made me smile and think, isn't this what Christmas is all about...feeling grateful when someone does something unexpected, doing nice things for other people that make them smile, and making someone's day just a little more special?

Merry Christmas (or merry holiday season) to you and your family. May the peace of the season be with you...may your heart have moments of joy.

P.S. If you want more happiness in your heart, be sure you're adding a bunch of 'happiness actions' into your life. You'll find those happiness actions in my resource,: Happy for Life!
