Organizing Thought of the Day

Doing Things That Take a Small Effort, But Can Make a Big Impact
|
I was in a coffee shop the other day waiting for a 'to go' cup of joe when I
saw a little boy, probably around 4 years old, running across the restaurant. I
saw his mom and heard her telling him to come back, but he was 'on a mission,'
so to speak. He ran to another patron's table, picked up her sweater that had
fallen to the floor, and handed it to her. The lady smiled and thanked him
graciously...which ended up with a HUGE smile on his face. I also had a big
smile on my face, as well as other patrons in the establishment. It was just so
cute and sweet. Pure kindness.
This made me think of some of the many things we can all do on a daily basis
that take hardly any effort at all...but can make a big impact on others. Part
of being organized is knowing what some of these efforts are, and making an
effort to do them when we can. Here are a bunch of possibilities:
1. Be the first to say hello. It's so simple, and sometimes you won't
get a 'hello' back. But most of the time you will. It's a simple act that shows
we acknowledge other humans beings.
2. Pay for someone else's coffee. Chances are, they'll pay that kindness
forward to someone else...because of your initial kind gesture.
3. Keep an
extra umbrella in your car. Give it
to someone who clearly needs one, but doesn't have one, when you have the
opportunity. Allow them to keep it.
4. Allow somebody ahead of you on the grocery line. If you notice
someone only has a few items, and you have an entire shopping cart full, grant
them access to go ahead of you.
5. Put your phone away when you're with someone. Give them your full
attention.
6. Give a genuine compliment. Just saying, 'nice sweater' is nice.
Saying, 'Your sweater looks fabulous on you. It compliments your skin and eyes
beautifully!' is even better!
7. 'Round up' your total to the nearest dollar when a cashier asks you
if you want to.
8. Hold the door open for someone, and thank those who do so for you.
It's a simple courtesy.
9. Donate blood. You can save a life. If you're unable to donate blood
for one reason or another, consider volunteering at a blood drive.
10. Say 'I love you' to those you love, even if you're sure they know
it.
