  Organizing Thought of the Day

Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

Here's how I make life a bit easier for others

After getting married, I moved quite often--19 times in 17 years! So, I know what it is to find a new doctor, new church, all the utility companies, what day the trash is picked up, names of neighbors, etc.

Before locking up for the last time, I would tape a list of these with phone numbers for the new occupants.

Here's how I remember to do what I need to do
Since I work on a computer all day long, I keep a Word document open where I type anything I need to remember to do when I get home or at lunch time.

I can add things to the list in the order I need to complete the errands quicker. When it's time to go, I print it out and head out the door!

--Ustina Barsukoff, Mt. Angel, OR

My solution for helping children clean up efficiently
I worked in a daycare and was amazed at this simple solution for helping children remember where to put their toys when cleaning up. A picture was taken of every large toy or group of like-toys and placed on a shelf with clear tape or contact paper.

One shelf had a picture of push-trucks and cars taped to it. Another shelf had a picture of building blocks.

There were plastic drawers with pictures taped to the front of each drawer for dress-up clothes, puppets, matchbox cars, etc.

The pictures can be photos, drawings, or pictures taken from a magazine, or even the packaging the toy came in. The teacher's cabinet even had pictures on each shelf for arts and crafts supplies divided by paper, crayons and paint, playdough, scissors, smocks, etc. Clean up was a breeze!
