Organizing Thought of the Day
|
Ask Maria:
What should I do with items I would like to discard, but are not in bad shape?
|
A GON Reader Asked:
Maria,
I really love Get Organized Now! There are so many helpful tips on a daily
basis that help to keep me organized. My question for you today is, what do I
do with all of the items I'd like to discard, but they are not in bad shape? I
just moved into our new home which is a small two-bedroom ranch and we
downsized from a four bedroom farmhouse.
I know the Salvation Army will take
the clothing. I'm just not sure what to do with odd things like costume jewelry
or perfume that I'm not using. What a shame to throw things out like this!
Maybe a list of places we could donate to would be helpful to us all! Thank you
so much for your help, your time and dedication to this program.

Maria Gracia Responded:
Hi Liz,
Congratulations on your recent move! I'm glad you asked your question because
decluttering now is a great thing to do. No sense keeping things in your new
home that you're never going to use.
The Salvation Army, Goodwill, and many other local donation centers, accept
items like vehicles, furniture, appliances, clothing, purses, costume jewelry,
and countless other household items. If you're wondering if they'll take
something you have, definitely call and ask. You may be surprised at the wide
array of categories they will accept.
Local women's shelters are always looking for self-care products. Call the ones
nearest you to ask what they will accept. They may take that perfume off
your hands. All have different rules.
There are companies that will accept your gently used cosmetic donations,
jewelry, sun screen, feminine products and tons more, such as Project Beauty
Share. You can Google them for details.
Teachers of elementary school age children may take any craft supplies off
your hands and use them for classroom projects. Sometimes, they're also in
need of magazines, egg cartons, and used up paper towel and toilet paper
rolls.
If you have other categories you're wondering about, reply back and I'll
come up with some ideas for those. Hope this helps a bit!
P.S. Clear your clutter the fast and easy way with my organizing resource,
Goodbye Clutter!
