"JUST ONE THING" You Can Do Today...

Get rid of ratty dish towels. Replace with new ones if necessary.
Organizing Thought of the Day
|
End Morning Madness
|
Whether you are married or single, have children or no children, getting ready
in the morning can be challenging. However, putting effective routines into the
day can make all the difference in transforming a chaotic morning into one that
is calm, smooth, and more streamlined.
1. Shower in the evening before bed. Most folks shower in the morning
before work, but I've always been a shower in the evening person. I always
have more 'meandering time' at night and it's nice to take care of this
routine during those hours versus the busy morning ones. Plus, I'm always
getting into bed fresh and clean.
2. Get ready for tomorrow, today. Put your keys, briefcase and all of
the other things you will need for the next day in the same spot every evening
so you can just grab everything and go in the morning. If the kids need certain
items for sports or other activities, make sure they have them ready and all
in the same spot the night before so the morning is not spent searching for
something missing. Choose what you're going to wear tomorrow. Have it all laid
out, clothing, shoes, and accessories. Review tomorrow's TO DO list today so
you know what's coming up.
3. Coordinate bathroom schedules with the people you live with. If you
have less bathrooms than family members, fighting for morning bathroom time can
cause frustration and zap you of the energy you need for the rest of the day.
Discuss and designate times in the morning for everyone to use the bathroom for
showering, hair, makeup, etc. Also, some grooming doesn't have to necessarily
be done in the bathroom. For instance, a
light-up makeup mirror will allow you
to apply cosmetics in another room, freeing up bathroom time for another family
member.
4. If you have young children, use morning television programs, video games,
etc. strategically. Save a favorite program (or 10 minutes of video time)
as a reward for when clothes are on, breakfast has been eaten, and all of their
things are ready to go.
5. Write your 'Take With Me' list so you don't forget anything. Make a
list the night before and tape it to your refrigerator or in another prominent
spot where you will notice it. A magnetic or tabletop dry erase board
is also a good option. There is nothing worse than getting out on the road only
to realize you left an important file at home.
6. Wake up earlier. This may not be something you want to do, but it
doesn't have to be much earlier, say 15 minutes. If your mornings are just too
packed, you may need a little more time. To make up the difference, consider
going to bed a little bit earlier as well. Remember that getting a good night's
sleep is very important in helping to give you that good start to your day.

Here's What GON in Five Minutes! Means to Me
|
"Your newsletter really resonates with me, especially one you wrote
regarding structured time off. Because of medical challenges, all my time is
focused on healing and surviving, it hadn't occurred to me to structure 'time
off' or at least a change of pace for a few hours every week. Thanks for your
ezine!"
-- Nancy Kirk
"I read every one of your newsletters and enjoy them all, however I've
never told you so. I am a firm believer in positive feedback so no more
assumptions on my part! Thank you for what you do and your great newsletter!"
-- Your faithful reader, Victoria Nicklin
