My Quick-Clean Method for Keeping the Fridge Clean and Organized
|
While I will completely empty out and clean my fridge once a month, I regularly
do this 'quick clean' to ensure it's sanitary and not filling up with foods
destined to go bad before we use them up.
1. Wait until the fridge is nearly empty. This makes it easy to do a
quick cleaning. Plus, when you go grocery shopping, there will be plenty of
space for your new purchases.
2. Toss anything that has gone bad. Hopefully you've used up most of
what you had before your weekly grocery shopping, but always check for food
that's past its prime, salad dressing that has expired, milk that has gone
sour, etc. Discard these items.
3. Spot clean the shelves. It's very easy to do this in a fairly empty
refrigerator, just moving food around if needed. I usually just clean it with a
clean, damp dishtowel and then dry it off. (I only sanitize it once a month,
and when I do, all the food is removed to do so.)
4. Re-distribute to correct shelves. Each of my fridge shelves, drawers,
and the door are designated for specific categories of items to keep everything
organized. If food items in yours have been placed on shelves where they don't
belong (like if there is a leftovers container on the top shelf and it should
be two shelves lower), move it to its proper shelf, drawer, or the door.
That's it. I do my quick-clean system weekly and it helps to keep the fridge
clean and organized, as well as prevents food from getting pushed to the back
and forgotten about.
I should also mention that it helps tremendously to keep it clean if your
refrigerator isn't jam-packed with food. Just as an FYI, if you fill it up, the
air may not flow through the unit. If this happens, some of the food you're
storing may not stay chilled, which can lead to food spoilage or food
poisoning. Keep it stocked, of course, but not filled so much that you can't
even see what's in there.
P.S. If you allow it, the 'clutter monster' will take over your home and your
life. Take back control and say goodbye to your clutter today.
Goodbye Clutter!

Here's What GON in Five Minutes! Means to Me
|
"Hi Maria, A recent GON in 5 Minutes Newsletter you wrote suggested that
writing a list by hand, rather than digitally, may help one stay more
organized. I prefer to write by hand when I can. It's also why I feel
journaling is so effective. Thanks again for your daily motivation - bless you!
Ciao for now!"
