Feeling Overwhelmed? Hit the Pause Button and Use the 333 Rule

What does it mean to feel overwhelmed?

Have you ever noticed how each person reacts with the same or similar situations in a totally different way from each other? The causes or triggers for overwhelm are as varied as the people who experience them.

We all become stressed at different rates. Some of us may become anxious by a single adverse situation, while another person may tolerate what an observer considers to be an excessive amount of overwhelming occurrences.

Although we are all different, there are a number of ways to 'ground' ourselves to get back to feeling OK once again.

Hitting the pause button may include turning off phone notifications, social media, the TV, or tablet. It may also be taking a warm bath or reading a good book, journaling, watching a comedy, or going for a walk or run.

There's something I'd like to add to hitting the pause button that you may also find helpful.

Many years ago, a friend admitted to being easily overwhelmed, anxious and stressed and she shared how she learned to cope. She explained to me that her doctor suggested that if her usual ways to become calm were not available or accomplishing the desired results, that she exercise the 333 rule for anxiety.

She shared with me that when she is thinking about having too much to do or worrying or her mind seems to be racing, she applies what her medical professional taught her which is the following:

a. She looks around her present environment and names three things she sees.

b. Then she listens for three sounds and names them.

c. Then she moves three of her own body parts while naming them.

She went on to explain that after creating her own tool box for overwhelm and using the 333 rule when necessary, she now knows what works for her.

On those days when you're feeling stressed and overwhelmed, remember to hit that pause button and simply breathe. You may also wish to combine that with the 333 rule to help your mind refresh and refocus.

Because it's impossible to stay on top of everything going on without writing things down, people are getting inundated with more and more paper every day.

You have to remember a birthday, so that gets written on a calendar. You have to make a grocery list, so you scribble down a few items and stick the list on the fridge. Someone gives you a phone number, and it gets written in the address book. You're planning your garden, and that information is stored in a notebook. You want to keep track of the movies you want to see, or the books you want to read--another sheet of paper. A friend gives you an email address on a sticky note that is now attached to your computer monitor.

Paper, paper and more paper--and it's all over your home!

Information is getting lost. Appointments are missed. Goals aren't being met. And all of this adds up to chaos and frustration.

This is where the Get Organized Now! Easy Organizer comes in and saves the day. It allows you to organize all of your information so it's in one place and easily found when you need it!

Here's what just one customer had to say:

The Easy Organizer is just that--it's so easy. I've got lists now in one place that before I'd been carrying around in my head, my pockets, around my desk, in the kitchen... Before, I had post-it notes all over the place. Now they're in my Easy Organizer. A lot of great ideas and important information has been lost in the shuffle before this! I love this thing. Knowing where to find things right away and having a very simple way of entering the info--many kinds, in many forms--is such a relief. This was a great investment...and, really, it's such a great value for everything it includes! Thanks so much!
