Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

My system for organized, low-cost gift-giving

I have a designated gift closet and buy things on sale during the year for baby showers, wedding showers, birthdays and other occasions. I am not pressured to buy 'big ticket' items in a time crunch.

I do the same with greeting cards. I always have a supply of the low-cost cards on hand and cringe if I have to spend $2.50 or more on a card.

--Elsie McCord, Brooksville, FL

Keeping the volume of kid clothing under control
I have two kids and they are constantly growing. I keep an empty box inside their closets so when an item no longer fits (including shoes), I place it in the box. Once the box is full, I donate the box.

This way, you touch the item for removal ONE time. No need to make piles, or worse yet, leave the clothing in the closet or drawers with the rest of the ones that do fit.

--Linda Hanson, Little Rock, AR

Two people find motivation for accomplishing overwhelming tasks
My partner and I have found a great solution to accomplishing those overwhelming tasks we have put off forever. We each make a list of procrastinated, I-hate-to-do-them tasks, as well as a list of favorite rewards, and give the list to the other. We then choose one or two tasks from each other's list TO DO lists.

The trade is easy--one is overwhelmed by the idea of mending, the other thinks nothing of whipping up a business plan or writing a difficult letter to a client (or friend). Then we each get to choose a reward from our own list.

It is always interesting to see how easy it is for someone else to do a task that one of us has put off for months!
