Fabulous Organizing Tips and Thoughts
from GON Readers

Here are a bunch of tips and thoughts from GON Readers to brighten your day...

Keeping Clutter at Bay

When I go shopping for clothes, I empty the bag I just brought home and fill it up with clothes from my closet. I then donate everything in the bag. I try to do the same for other parts of the house and my business.

--Cheryl Hunter, Madera, CA

How I Keep Track of Leftovers and Plan Meals
I use permanent marker and number all my food storage container lids. I keep a sheet of paper where I list in columns: date, lid number, refrigerator (R) or freezer (F), and what is in the container. This way I don't have to remember what I have.

I can plan a meal around the leftovers. I haven't had any spoiled leftovers since I've done this. It works great!

--Karen Antunes, Lutz, FL

How I Keep My Vehicle Clean and Organized
I have an hour commute each way, every day, to work and I am a student as well. I find myself eating on the run a lot and end up with trash, books, and everything else in my car. I have been embarrassed by the mess in my car when someone needs a ride, especially my mom! I have found a couple of things that help.

1 - I have a plastic milk crate that I take into my house each night, and store in the trunk of my car each day. I can never remember what I need to take with me the next day, or if it is already in my car, so I now put everything I need to take with me in my milk crate. Books, papers, purse, etc. I do some volunteer work at two different places and keep all my relevant papers in sturdy plastic folders, one for each place, in the milk crate at all times so they are always with me. I have the milk crate in my car all day and take out what I need when I need it.

2 - When I am filling up with gas, usually two times a week, I am multi-tasking. I set the pump to continue going without my assistance and I take the time to open all the doors and trunk of the car and clean out ALL the trash I have collected. This is a great time to do it as most gas stations have big trash cans right at the pump. This way there is not too much trash piling up and I don't have to worry about taking it out and throwing it away at home.

3 - I keep a few plastic grocery bags in my car for trash. When I am filling up with gas, all I have to do is dump the contents of the bag into the trash can.

___ 1. Do today's task on my February Monthly Organizing Checklist. The February 25 TO DO focuses on your computer icons. Visit GetOrganizedNow.com to access my February Monthly Organizing Checklist.

___ 2. Bring water to stay hydrated while you're out and about. If you're a water drinker like me, and have several sized water bottles depending on the activity you're doing, you may have noticed that some water bottles are larger than the typical vehicle cup holder. This cup holder expander solves the problem beautifully. What a great idea!
