"JUST ONE THING" You Can Do Today...
|
Set a timer for 10 minutes. Delete as many messages as you can before the
timer sounds.
Organizing Thought of the Day
|
Your Life...Simplified
|
If taking time to stop and smell the roses seems like a pipe dream, it may
be high-time to start simplifying your life. Here are some ways you can begin
on that journey today.
1) Disconnect from technology. We are connected to so many different
types of technology that sometimes it can feel very overwhelming. Disconnecting
does not mean getting get rid of your cell phone or email. It just means
setting boundaries. Screen calls using caller ID. Let your voice mail take some
of your calls. On your automated greeting, make it clear when you are available
and when you are not available. Set aside a specific time each day to answer
email or phone messages instead of randomly being controlled by them all day.
2) Lessen information overload. Because the sources for getting
information are unlimited, narrow your focus. Otherwise you will be loading
information into your brain 24/7! Cut back on the number of publications you
subscribe to. Limit yourself on the number of websites you visit for
information. Focus solely on the main sources of information you rely on the
most.
3) Watch less television. Did you ever think about how much time you and
your family spend watching television on a daily basis? Cut the number of hours
the TV is on by asking yourself what activities you could be doing with your
family instead. Decide on what programs to watch and turn the TV off when the
programs are over.
4) Find your private sanctuaries. Make these spots those where you find
peace and solitude, whether it is a bedroom, a patio, or even the local
library. Set aside a few minutes each day to spend in one of your sanctuaries.
Sit and relax, read, do nothing, or meditate.
5) Take the most difficult task of a project and complete it first. By
getting the hardest tasks done and out of the way, you'll feel accomplished
and the rest of your day will feel more easy-going.
6) Eliminate a good amount of the paper you receive. Remove yourself
from mailing lists so your snail mailbox isn't always packed with papers
and catalogs you don't need. Switch to paperless billing. Ask insurance and
investment companies to send you digital versions of their annual reports.
Don't print anything unless you absolutely, positively have to.
7) Get rid of clutter. Having too much stuff causes stress. Clutter
takes time and effort to maintain and it infringes on our attention and focus.
Donating, selling or giving away
unwanted and unused items are all great ways of simplifying your space and
giving someone else the opportunity to put your unused/unloved items to good
use.
8) Be careful about overspending. Debt is a big source of stress for
many people. Create a budget. Curb spending by tracking your current spending
habits. Devise a plan to save for your future.
P.S. If you want more happiness in your heart, be sure you're adding a bunch
of 'happiness actions' into your life. You'll find those happiness actions
in my resource,:
Happy for Life!
