Whether you're a family of two or a family of ten, this three-step, once-a-month clutter-buster routine will help you reduce items you're no longer loving and/or using...and give you a lot more space:
1. Every family member donates, sells, or trashes 5 clothing items on the 1st of every month. These can be jeans, shirts, shorts, skirts, dresses, sweatpants, outerwear, underwear, socks, caps, accessories, purses, shoes...anything that is worn.
2. Every family member donates, sells, or trashes one other item on the first of the month. This can be an appliance, a toy, a cosmetic, an old calendar, a craft item, a tool that's no longer being used, etc. It doesn't really matter what it is...but each person must show-and-tell something
they're saying goodbye to...and say goodbye to it.
3. For any family member who shops for anything, two items must go for every one item purchased. This is in addition to numbers one and two above, and should happen on the day of purchase before that new item is worn or used.
By the way, if you have young kids, this a great routine that will help keep them organized and clutter-free in the future. So be sure to make them feel like they're part of this process.
Happy decluttering!
