  Organizing Thought of the Day

Embrace the Earth...It's Our Home

Today is Earth Day, the anniversary of the modern environmental movement that began in 1970. While many of us are trying our best to do things that are good for our planet, having an official day is a good reminder to assess our daily habits which are either contributing to or detracting from the ultimate goal of a clean and healthy planet for years to come.

Consider your home and neighborhood. Is it free from litter? Is your yard groomed and neatly landscaped? Maybe your own yard would benefit by a few more trees being planted? They clean the air, give us shade, and boost our mental health after all.

It's so easy to jump in the car just to go a mile down the street. Before you head out the door, consider this. Am I combining all my errands and getting them completed in one trip? Could I take my bike instead? If you work close to home, maybe start biking or walking to work when the weather permits.

Have you ever noticed a road sign that states, Adopt-A-Highway? These are campaigns you can join as a business or volunteer group. You simply help clean up a stretch of roadside litter two or three times a year. I know of a 4-H group that adopted a two mile long state road that was in dire need of pickup. Twice a year the group, comprised of kids of all ages, donned old clothes and work gloves to beautify a local road. Do you think they ever littered after that? I highly doubt it, so it's promoting education as well. There was even a prize for the craziest trash found!

Speaking of this, I have a neighbor who I often see in our neighborhood picking up any litter she sees. She obviously has a big heart and truly cares about the cleanliness of our community.

Planting a garden and/or supporting a local farmers market can make a big impact on our earth. Not only does the food taste better, but it also helps support local businesses, gets us out to socialize with others, and results in less shipping.

Do you compost? When you do, there is less added to our landfills and a reward of rich loose soil.

These are just a few ideas...and there are MANY more. Be mindful of the products you're using and the packaging it comes in. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and repurpose when you can. Be observant in your neck of the woods and find a way to help.

Together, we can do our part, each and every day, for this wonderful planet we're living on. Happy Earth Day!

Here's What GON in Five Minutes! Means to Me

"I loved your recent issue when you suggested fixing our squeaky doors. I finally did this, and am living squeak-free now. I'm so happy. It's the little things, right?"
-- Beth Henderson

"Because of your GON in 5 Minutes Ezine, I finally helped all four of my kids declutter their closets. We filled 14 bags...I'm not kidding...and donated all of it. Our house feels lighter. I thought my kids would be upset and missing all their stuff. On the contrary, they like the new space they've gained!"
-- Dorothy K., Alabama

"I donated 50 of my books last weekend. Thanks for the gentle push you always give in your newsletters!"
-- Jayne J., Appleton, WI

Because it's impossible to stay on top of everything going on without writing things down, people are getting inundated with more and more paper every day.

You have to remember a birthday, so that gets written on a calendar. You have to make a grocery list, so you scribble down a few items and stick the list on the fridge. Someone gives you a phone number, and it gets written in the address book. You're planning your garden, and that information is stored in a notebook. You want to keep track of the movies you want to see, or the books you want to read--another sheet of paper. A friend gives you an email address on a sticky note that is now attached to your computer monitor.

Paper, paper and more paper--and it's all over your home!

Information is getting lost. Appointments are missed. Goals aren't being met. And all of this adds up to chaos and frustration.

This is where the Get Organized Now! Easy Organizer comes in and saves the day. It allows you to organize all of your information so it's in one place and easily found when you need it!

Here's what just one customer had to say:

The Easy Organizer is just that--it's so easy. I've got lists now in one place that before I'd been carrying around in my head, my pockets, around my desk, in the kitchen... Before, I had post-it notes all over the place. Now they're in my Easy Organizer. A lot of great ideas and important information has been lost in the shuffle before this! I love this thing. Knowing where to find things right away and having a very simple way of entering the info--many kinds, in many forms--is such a relief. This was a great investment...and, really, it's such a great value for everything it includes! Thanks so much!
