Yesterday was my daughter's senior prom. The kids (really not kids anymore) all looked so beautiful. They were dressed to the nines...excited for dinner, dance, and post-prom activities.
As a mom, pre-prom and day-of-prom were busy, busy, busy. A few months ago, we shopped for Amanda's gown. That took driving to three different stores, miles and miles apart, to find the perfect one. It's violet, very detailed, and as poofy as you can imagine. It was challenging to carry it out of the store.
They didn't have her exact size, so we then had to make arrangements to get it altered, which they didn't offer at the dress shop. I did a bit of research among my Facebook friends and landed a seamstress, who was amazing, and now we have her name and number for future alterations.
Luckily, Amanda had shoes and a purse from a previous engagement, so we saved a bit of money, and a lot of shopping time. It's rarely easy or fast finding the perfect pair of shoes, so this was a blessing.
First thing yesterday, I picked up flowers for all the girls (ordered a week prior), went with Amanda to her hair appointment, and then met all the kids for an hour-long photo shoot. I enjoy taking photos so this was a fun TO DO for me.
Today, Mother's Day, I'm actually taking the time to relax and just enjoy some quiet time. This year, I honestly nearly forgot that Mother's Day was approaching. With all of the activity happening with my daughter, and all the tasks that involve me (prom preparation, prom, end of school year events, college shopping, planning, and orientation, graduation planning, etc.), sitting around and doing nothing is exactly what I want to be 'doing' today.
Whether you are a mother or not, happy Mother's Day! I think we all take on that "mother role" no matter what. Maybe that involves us helping out family, friends, or neighbors. Perhaps it has us encouraging other women and/or serving our communities. Maybe it's being the caring parent of a wonderful pet.
However you are spending your Sunday, I hope it's a beautiful day for you that includes whatever it is that brings you inner happiness.
P.S. If you want more happiness in your heart, be sure you're adding a bunch of 'happiness actions' into your life. You'll find those happiness actions in my resource, Happy for Life!
