Stand-In or Fake Jewelry
Maria,
Your advice to have 'stand-in' or fake jewelry (April 8 Newsletter) for someone who is in an assisted living
or a nursing home is brilliant. I so wish I'd thought of that years ago. My mother had dementia and still had her wedding/engagement rings on when she went into a nursing home. The arthritis in her fingers was so bad that I figured there is no way those rings could come off over her swollen knuckles.
Well, apparently they could because her wedding ring disappeared. Still turns my stomach when I think of it. If I would have substituted her rings for cheap ones, she wouldn't have known the difference at that point. Anyway, it's a good tip for those who do have a loved one going into nursing
care.

My Laundry Joy
Maria,
I am a retired mom with only my husband and I, and three to four loads of laundry a week. I have been laughed at for years about my laundry joy.
I always told my family that the house is not clean until the laundry is done, including sent in color coded baskets to each family member and put neatly in drawers.
All of my four children learned to sort/wash/and fold by 12 years old. Some were better than others. Some chose to wear wrinkled clothes.
The amazing gift came when my daughter-in-law told me that my son taught her how to hang jeans/pants on a hanger so they looked perfect when she put them on! Now that is the best reward ever!

Moving Tips
When moving, get a floor map of your new house (usually included in the packet buyers will see). I give each room and each closet a number.
When packing up items, put the number of the room or closet you want these items to go to on the box.
If you are using a moving company, post the map on the front door. It makes it so much quicker for them to see the number on the map and they don't have to keep asking you where it goes. Plus it keeps you organized too.
Don't forget to give an attic or basement numbers also.
