In yesterday's newsletter, I began sharing a whole
bunch of ways to diminish the paper pile up. Today, I'm sharing even more. Here goes:
8. Opt out. To help control the influx of junk mail in your home, call 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688).
You can request to be omitted from these lists for five years. To opt out permanently, download and mail a signed Permanent Opt-Out form: optoutprescreen.com.
9. Receive your bill statements online, and pay your bills online. This eliminates the paper, postage, and ensures your bills are paid instantaneously.
10. Don't save coupons unless you actually use them. Cutting coupons is a great way to save money, but if you forget to use them, they're just more paper clutter. Keep them in an easily accessible location so they will be used. Alternately, only use your store card and/or digital coupons.
11. Don't collect newspapers that never get read. If you're subscribed to a printed newspaper, be sure you're reading it. If you're trying to cut down on paper, there may be a digital edition.
12. Weed out one file a
day. One sure way to keep paper from piling up is to make sure to regularly go through your files and toss out outdated information. Today, choose one file folder from your filing system and weed it out. Tomorrow, choose another and weed that one out.
13. Before you file... Many times people
file papers that are never looked at again. Before you file anything, ask this question: "Do I really need to keep this document?"
14. Know what's where. Keep a list of where all of your important documents are located and make sure that list is in a safe place. This creates peace of
mind.
15. Stop procrastinating. Paperwork can become overwhelming, but you do not have to tackle your piles of paperwork all at once. Do it in sections taking baby steps. Once you start and continue to work on the piles, you will see results. Commit to handling it just a little bit each
day.
