If you have brothers and/or sisters, you may be
familiar with hand-me-downs. The first child would get the new clothes, and the next kid to follow would get that child's clothing when the first child had outgrown them. If there was a big family, there would be many hand-me-downs from the older kids to the youngest.
It saved money. It made good use out of each article of clothing. It was a smart concept that still is in use with many families today.
For the past few years, though, I've been at the point where I'm benefitting from hand-me-ups!
My teenage daughter buys very stylish clothing, but
when it's no longer trendy, she tends not to wear that attire any longer. She's not the type to hang onto clothing she doesn't use, so she's definitely more than willing to donate those items.
And she takes wonderful care of her clothing, so anything she donates is like new, even if she wore it again and again.
Before she donates, I go through her
ready-to-donate pile to be sure there isn't something in there that I would like.
While I would not fit into her pants or shorts, I recently scored a pair of Ugg boots! They are warm, comfy
boots, and we're the same shoe size.
I also took advantage of a few sweatshirts she was going to give away. I knew they would be perfect for walks on colder, winter days.
And she also had an over-sized sweater that I know will be perfect to wear to a crafting retreat I'm soon going to be enjoying.
So before you go out and spend more money enhancing your wardrobe, check with a younger family member to see if they have any hand-me-ups.
