Question
Greetings. Love your newsletter and look forward to reading it daily. While recently going through a draw at my (hoarder) brother’s apartment, I came across scarves/kerchiefs, and hand embroidered ladies handkerchiefs from my deceased mother.
I do not use scarves and I usually use tissues. Nor do my friends/family.
Do you have any suggestions as what to do with these items? I do not just want to put them in clothing dumpsters. Thank you for any suggestions?

Hi Mindy,
Thank you for your note. The stash of handkerchiefs you found can be a crafter's dream. They can be repurposed into wreaths, pillows, quilts, and more. If you're crafty, just Google "repurpose vintage handkerchiefs" and that will turn up tons of ideas.
If you're not crafty, donate them to a thrift store...or check with a friend who is crafty and enjoys to sew. This person may happily take them off your hands.
You can always post a photo and message on Facebook that says, "I have hand-embroidered handkerchiefs that belonged to my mom. I'm going to keep one, but wonder if any of my crafty friends would like the rest for your sewing projects. If you want them, they're yours. Just message me."
Antiques stores may take them off your hands as well.
Finally, you can always use them to decorate, like using one on your bedside nightstand to place your reading glasses and phone on, or tied around your clothing hangers to give you a special reminder of your mom every time you reach for something to wear.
I hope this helps.
