I received an email today from a GON reader, Karen Tarpley, who lives in Richmond, Texas. Her note said...
"I knew your inspirational quote in your January 12 issue looked familiar! This is
mostly completed, but not yet framed."
Karen was referring to her beautiful handmade project pictured above. Her note and project inspired me today. (Thanks, Karen, for
sharing!)
That got me thinking about how important it is to be inspired every day. Being inspired in our day-to-day lives can help increase our motivation and productivity, spark
creativity, help us achieve more, and boost our happiness levels.
I highly encourage you to seek out inspiration. Here are four things that inspired me this week...
Watching a movie that makes me laugh and/or cry: There are so many movies that inspire me. I recently re-watched three gems this week: Mr. Holland's Opus, A League of Their
Own, and Eat, Pray, Love...all good motivational and inspirational choices.
Music that sets the right mood: I find that the right playlist for the right
situation can be incredibly inspiring. On a gray day, listening to the Beach Boys can spark immediate sunshine. On a day when I'm feeling sluggish, 80s pop music perks me right up.
People who create: It doesn't matter if someone is drawing, crafting, baking homemade bread, writing a book or a song, building a home, canning their own salsa, or making a special coffee drink...there is something extra special about handmade, homemade and artistry.
A friend of mine can sew just about anything. She recently made her daughter's wedding dress! That is ambition...and the dress is gorgeous. I was thrilled to get a sneak peek.
Kindness in action: When I see it (or learn about it) in action, it makes my spirits soar. There was a woman in the supermarket a few days ago who dropped a $20 bill on the floor accidentally, but didn't realize it.
A child (about 8 or 9 years old) behind her exclaimed, "Excuse me...you just dropped money on the floor!" The woman turned around and was apparently so touched with the boy's honesty that she handed him the cash and told him to do whatever he wanted with it.
Not two minutes later, I heard the boy telling his mom he wanted to use that money to buy pancake mix and syrup for the food pantry collection box in church. What a sweet young man!
Seek out inspiration every single day. Trust me, it will greatly enhance your life.
P.S. When you're inspired, write to me and let me know what it was and how it made you feel. I'll include your note in a future issue of this ezine.
