Last week, Joe and I went to the movies to see A
Man Called Otto. This is based on the book, A Man Called Ove...which I read awhile ago for my monthly book chat and
thoroughly enjoyed.
The movie is sooooo good. If you haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
Tom Hanks and Mariana Treviño are both cast perfectly. It's about a man who is devastated over the loss of his wife and is ready to give up on his...that is, until he realizes that life can still be incredibly fulfilling.
Everything in between leading up to this realization is a heartwarming journey of funny antics, unexpected friendships, and the joy one can soak in by helping others.
Joe and I saw this flick at our local theater, the Towne Cinema. Believe it or not, tickets there are just $3 each! Can you even imagine?
We were both hungry afterwards. However, most restaurants in our area close at 10:00 p.m., so we just picked up some take-out from Culver's (a local restaurant chain) and ate our meal at home. This gave us the opportunity to chat about the movie.
It was a very simple, inexpensive, and wonderful evening.
Most of us are focused on the TO DOs that get us from one day to the next...work, chores, paying bills, taking care of the kids, cooking, errands, etc. It's easy to say, "I'm tired," "I don't feel like going out," "that movie will be streaming soon," or some variation of that.
Venturing out on tiny adventures, however, is a great way to put all of those tasks behind you for just a bit. It's perfectly fine to go alone if you wish...there were several people at the theater taking up single seats. Or, go with your better half, a sister, a
friend, etc., and you'll both be able to share something fun together.
No matter what, you'll get to slow down and take a mini-vacation. And every now and then, you'll see a
movie like this one that has the power to generate a new spark of energy in your own life.
