Want your home to be more organized? Here are 10 little changes you can make today, to make a big difference in how your home looks tomorrow.
1. Clear a table. It's so easy to toss stuff on the kitchen or dining room table. Cluttered surfaces instantly will give your home a chaotic look. Clear off that surface.
2. Get rid of ONE item a day that you don't need. Just ONE. Anyone can do this.
3. Empty out your sink. A sink filled with dirty dishes automatically gives the kitchen an unclean look. Put everything in the dishwasher or wash by hand. And then put these items away in cabinets/drawers, etc. when done.
4. Create a no-clutter zone that you can retreat to. While you're in the process of decluttering your home or downsizing, it's important to have a serene place where you can sit and read a book, or meditate, without
having to look at clutter.
5. Place papers you're working on in a binder, rather than having them laying in small piles everywhere. Just get a binder, add 3-hole punched pocket folders to it, organize each project into its own pocket folder (label it with a removable label), and that is now your Action Binder. You'll know where everything is and it will look a whole lot neater.
6. Identify your clutter spots. Every home has at least one and some homes have many. Choose ONE of them and focus on weeding out and tidying up that space...a few minutes a day...until the task is done. Be sure to add this task
to your calendar and work on it daily, even if you can give it only 5 minutes at a time.
7. Keep your faucets spotless. When you're done brushing your teeth, or washing the
dishes, or taking a bath, clean the faucets so they have no water spots on them. It's amazing what a positive effect this small task has on the appearance of a room.
8. Put stuff
"inside." The more you have that's out in the open and visible at-a-glance, the bigger the chances are that area is going to look chaotic. So, if it's not decorative, and you have space IN your cabinets, closets, and drawers, that will almost always help give a home a more minimalist, calmer look.
9. Use baskets and containers to corral like-items. This will help you keep like-items together and will fulfill the "put stuff inside" concept, especially if you live in a smaller home that doesn't have tons of inside storage space (cabinets, closets, drawers, etc.)
10. Put something beautiful on a surface or in an area that you're done organizing. This could be a vase of flowers, a framed photo you love, or a memento that reminds you of a trip. I know that when I decorate with something pretty and/or special to me, that I want to keep that area clutter-free.
