Dee needed containers for her children’s small things
like crayons, Legos, doll clothes, etc. Heidi needed containers for different colors of thread and another for ribbon. Vivian needed a box to store batteries. And they all found just what they needed at the supermarket. Not in the household section either. In the produce area.
While It would be cheaper
to buy salad greens as whole heads and wash them yourself, many people really love the convenience of using the pre-washed greens in those clear plastic tubs.
It saves time and effort when
they are scrambling to put dinner on the table. And the way many are sealed these days, those greens last a lot longer in the refrigerator until they're opened. While they may cost a little more, there is a lot less wasted food for many people.
There is the rub, however, when it comes to the waste of throwing away all of those containers. The good news is, those plastic tubs they come in can be repurposed in so many ways.
They can store small toys, small tools, spools of thread, quilting scraps, batteries, seasoning packets, etc. They are see-through, allowing you to see what’s there. They stack. They are often just the right size for use as drawer organizers for items like socks or hairbands.
Maybe you're not fond of bags of pasta, popcorn, rice, etc., lying on your pantry shelves. You can corral them in these containers, where they look neater.
They also make great food scrap bowls on the counter while prepping a
meal.
Taking cookies to a friend? Or sending cookies or cake home with company? Make use of these containers. No one has to worry about returning them to you.
Grape tomatoes often come in small plastic containers that are perfect in drawers for fast food sauce packets, twist ties and rubber bands, odd keys, buttons, and general stuff that usually gets tossed in the junk drawer.
While they are not heavy-duty, produce containers have lots of uses. And if you are buying the produce packaged that way anyway, why not make use of them? They are free and convenient.
