You're likely very familiar with the song, The 12 Days of Christmas that begins with 12 drummers drumming, counts down with pipers piping, lords a
leaping, ladies dancing, maids a-milking, swans swimming, geese laying, gold rings, calling birds, French hens, turtle doves, and concludes with a partridge in a pear tree.
But did you know
that the 12 days of Christmas actually begins on Christmas Day, and NOT the 12 days leading up to it?
Starting on December 25, the twelve days of Christmas run until January 6, also
known in the Christian religion as Three Kings' Day or the Epiphany.
Now, this is not a religion lesson and there are many theories as to how this song originated.
I'm only mentioning it because, very often, when Christmas Day has come and gone, most of us put the merry aside (except for maybe New Year's Eve) and "go back" to our everyday lives.
Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or the Winter Solstice, let's help that cozy feeling linger a bit and lead us into the new year with warmth in our hearts.
In light of this, I created a Holiday Bingo game that you can begin today. (These apply to most people. A few are specific to Christmas, but feel free to adjust an activity that best represents you and
the holiday you celebrate.)
Every time you do one of the 25 activities on the Bingo card, "X" it out or highlight it. You can try to get five in a row left to right, up and down, or
diagonal.
Or, if you're feeling really ambitious, you might complete the entire card!
I'll be starting on the lower right corner box today, making a stovetop
potpourri. Which one will you choose to begin?
