When you're an athlete in training, you need to know
when to work your muscles and when to let them recover. After working your muscles, mind, and emotions during all of the December festivities, you need that recovery as well. Here are ways to restore your mind, body, and soul after the holidays.
1. Rest. Make a commitment to getting at
least 7 hours of sleep every night, starting tonight.
2. Detox from world problems. Tonight, when you turn on the TV, opt for a heartwarming movie. No news, no violence,
nothing stimulating. This is part of your necessary reboot.
3. Organize something. It doesn't matter what it is, but there is something very satisfying about bringing
something that's messy...back to order. It doesn't have to be anything big. Even straightening out a drawer or weeding out a few files folders will give you an "I did it" feeling.
4. Plan something. Whether you're getting ready to organize the basement, start a new job, or plan for your summer vacation, start planning for that today. Plan the who, what, where, when, and why.
5. Do something good for your body. The holidays are often filled with indulgent foods. It's a good time to get back on track. Commit to eating salads for lunch. Switch from soda to water. Make home-cooked meals at night instead of eating out. Join the gym and/or get yourself into a new workout routine. Schedule your vital medical appointments.
6. Give thanks. Take time to revisit and rekindle your spiritual beliefs. Give thanks for the day, for your life, and for your family and friends. Contact three people just to say thank you...for being a good friend...for supporting you through thick and thin...for always being so helpful, etc.
7. Give yourself 20 minutes of "me time." Give yourself the gift of 20 minutes of "me time" every single day. This is your time to do whatever makes you feel calm, content, and happy. You can invest this time meditating,
enjoying a hobby, singing, doing an at-home facial, listening to a podcast...whatever it is that you love. Do this every single day without fail. You deserve it.
