A friend of mine brought me a mason jar filled with
pistachio nuts the other day. This was kind of a "blast from the past" for me. Although I like them, I don't normally buy them.
When I was a kid, I remember my mom buying those that had
shells dyed red. Do you remember those? They left red dye all over your fingers as you removed their shells.
The ones from my friend are not dyed and are unsalted. They're really quite
delicious.
Sometimes pistachios can be opened easily, just pried apart with your fingers. Other times, the shell isn't open enough for you to do this.
I remember a friend from years ago who loved these as well and she would crack them open in her mouth. I was always concerned she was going to lose a tooth.
Those "tight" pistachios, as long as there is a tiny opening, can actually be opened pretty easily using the shell from a pistachio that has already been opened.
Hold the unopen pistachio in your left hand. Hold half a shell, from another nut that you opened, in your right hand so the curved end (the outside of the shell) is facing up. Wedge the edge of that half shell into the opening of the closed shell, give it a little
twist clockwise, and it should pop right open. (If you're left handed, switch hands.)
Here are a few others...
If you get a take-out pizza after work, and your car has a seat warmer on the passenger side, use it to keep that pizza warm until you get home.
Paint the tops of your keys with nail polish, so you can quickly identify your keys...like green for the shed, blue for the office, etc.
So many people have
black-colored luggage. If you do too, tie a very distinguishable ribbon around the handle of yours (like bright orange with polka dots) so you can identify the suitcases that belong to you immediately.
