I think it is safe to say that we all love having
clean clothes to wear. It is probably equally safe to say that we probably don’t love the work that it involves to get those same clean clothes from the clothes hamper into our closet.
But
doing laundry really doesn’t need to be an overwhelming task as long as you stay on top of things and make it as easy as possible.
One of my best investments ever has been a laundry sorter. It has three separate compartments that allows my family to sort the laundry as we go, rather than waiting until laundry day. When a specific compartment fills up, I can just get a load of laundry done, without having to sort through lights, darks,
towels, or whatever way I have sorted my laundry out.
This also allows me to see at a glance when a specific load is full enough to run a cycle for, without having to weed through the
clothes first.
Also, I find that folding the clothes immediately after they come out of the dryer is a key way to keep laundry from piling up. Folding and putting away just one basket of clothes is much less overwhelming than folding and putting away multiple loads.
As you wash a load, make sure to fold and put away immediately after. Not only will this mean less to do later, but it will also free up the laundry basket for when you need it next.
Another thing to consider is how dirty is that piece of clothing that you just wore? When you wear something like a sweater that goes over something else or a dressier outfit, you probably do not need to wash it after every use.
Unless you happened to spill something on yourself that day, some items most likely can be worn more than once before they need to be laundered. This will not only save you valuable time but will also extend the life of your clothing.
Finally, if doing laundry for multiple people at a time, invest in one mesh laundry bag per family member. These are great for washing socks. Each person can put his or her dirty socks in the bags, and you can run all the bags through both the wash and dry cycle, and then return that bag to the owner.
This will save you the time of having to match up countless numbers of socks as well as get everyone involved in keeping on top of the mountain of laundry that we somehow all seem to have.
