Believe it or not, today is International Day of Awesomeness. This holiday originated when Fred Maneiro, an intern at Kevin Lawyer's web
application development company, suggested that there should be a celebration for awesomeness.
Lawyer loved the idea, created the details around it, named the day, and promoted it on Twitter.
The idea caught on and went global.
Co-worker Dan Lurie came up with the original slogan for the day, “Because everyone needs an excuse to be awesome.” Then Lawyer's daughter later thought up the slogan, “No one’s
perfect, but everyone can be awesome.”
You two simple goals today:
1. Be awesome
2. Applaud others for being awesome.
Here are 8 ideas to achieve these
goals:
1. Ask someone a thoughtful question about their life and mindfully listen to their response. Perhaps ask about the city they grew up in, or what their first job was.
2. Do something that focuses on self-improvement. Update your resume, begin learning a new language, or start up a new walking regimen.
3. Compliment someone. Make it a point to recognize the "awesomeness" of someone else.
4. Spread awareness of the day. Don't keep this special day all to yourself. Talk it up in person and on social media.
5. Do something outside of the box. What's something you maybe always wanted to do, but have been a bit timid to try? Give it a shot today...even if it's just one small step towards whatever it is.
6. Share something you know with someone else, like a great fishing spot, or how to bake bread, or a hidden-gem restaurant that you like.
7. Be someone's support system and/or listening ear. Awesome people treat others with compassion, understanding, and respect.
8. Be awesome in your community. Pick up and discard trash when you see it laying around, volunteer for a city fundraising event, or run for a local government position.
Have fun being awesome...and applauding others for being awesome as well!
