If you like to cook, the kitchen is probably one of
your favorite places. If cooking is not on your list of most-liked activities, you probably prefer to spend as little time there as possible. Either way, if it is well organized, it will be a more enjoyable place to spend your time. Here are a few easy things to do to make it more organized.
Store things near where you use them.
The drawers next to the stove should be used for utensils, potholders, etc. A pretty utensil holder beside
the cooktop means your favorite cooking spoons and spatulas are always within reach. Store cookware in cabinets near the stove.
Cabinets near the dishwasher or sink should store dishes and glasses, making them easy to put away. I like to have my flatware drawer near the dishwasher for the same
reason.
Baking utensils stored together make it easier to put together cookies and other baked goods.
Slim rolling carts that fit between your stove or fridge and a cabinet can hold many items and make them easy to access. Store seldom-used items on higher shelves. Save lower shelves for things you use more often.
Keeping things tidy
Drawer dividers help to keep things orderly.
Stack or nest pots and pans, maybe with a paper plate or leftover plastic
shelf liner between them. Pan and lid organizers are convenient if you have a suitable space.
File holders hold boxes of foil, plastic wrap, etc.
Making Space
Shelf risers can double your space for storing any mugs, plates, and food. Step shelf risers allow you to see small jars in the back or cabinets. Or consider a lazy Susan in your cabinet to bring things to the fore as you need them. Store cutting boards and cookie sheets vertically, maybe with a rack designed for this purpose. A metal file organizer works too.
Storage containers that all work together can save a lot of space. You can buy sets of plastic or glass ones that nest and
share some lids.
You can attach many organizers inside doors for holding paper goods, plastic bags, etc.
Making things easy
Pull-out shelves are great for lower shelves where you may need things stored toward the back of the cabinet.
A dry-erase board attached to the refrigerator is perfect for grocery lists and reminders.
General Kitchen Organizing
Keep your counters as clear as possible. It’s hard to be inspired to cook when there is little space to do so in. If you use your coffee maker every day, it probably deserves some space on the counter. But do you use your slow cooker, food processor, or pressure cooker enough to justify the counter real estate they take up?
While you are clearing your counters, consider if non-kitchen items really belong. Is your counter the best place for mail, notebooks, etc.?
Get rid
of the extras and things you do not use.
Decluttering creates space and makes it more organized.
