Struggling to Pack For a Move
Hi, I’m a really long-time follower! I have a bad
back, 56-years old, but I have to move across the country and I’m struggling to pack my things.
I don’t know how and I can’t afford to hire anyone to help me. How can I do
this?

Hi Janice,
Moving can be challenging, ESPECIALLY when you have a bad back and limited resources. Here are some suggestions that I hope will offer some possible
solutions.
1. Seek help: Trying to move alone, when you have a bad back, is not a good idea. First and foremost, please ask family and/or friends for their assistance. Church and/or community members may be more than willing to help as well. They may also be able to connect you
with people/volunteers who can offer assistance, such as teens from a youth group. Even a few extra hands can make a significant difference.
2. Are there items you can sell? If you have items in your home that you're no longer using and are willing to offer for sale (furniture,
musical instruments, electronics), then you may be able to earn some extra funds to hire professional movers. You'll also, in that case, have less to bring with you on your move.
3. Give yourself ample time. By your note, I'm not sure how quickly you have to move, but creating a
plan and getting packed very gradually will help reduce the stress...and the strain on your back.
4. Use the proper tools. There are many tools and aids that will help ensure you can move things in a safe manner without putting undo strain on your back...like furniture sliders, moving straps or harnesses, hand trucks or dollies, back braces or support belts. I hope this gives you some ideas. Best of luck on your move, hugs, and always remember...safety
first!
