Time is precious. The way we use our time can greatly impact the quality of our lives. As we all know, it's easy to waste time on unproductive activities...time
that could have been used more effectively.
Here are three major time wasters to be aware of and how to convert those into time well spent.
1. Procrastination: Procrastination is the act of putting off important tasks for later. Many people fall prey to this habit, wasting a lot of time in the process.
To use your time more productively, identify one of the tasks you're procrastinating on and make a formal declaration to yourself that you're going to actually get it off of your plate.
Then, make a TO DO list including the mini tasks you have to do to begin getting this project off the ground and running.
2. Social
media: Social media (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) are great for staying connected. However, it's easy to use those platforms as time-wasting hang outs for 30 minutes, an hour...or more each day.
Set a personal social media time range each day (like 4:00P to 4:30P, etc.) to check your accounts and limit your usage to that time frame. Set an alarm to sound so you don't go over your limit.
Additionally, on some nights, switch from social media to reading a book, taking a class, or engaging in a hobby that will help you grow.
3. Multitasking: Multitasking may seem like an efficient way to get things
done, and sometimes it is, but other times it is actually a time-waster. When you multitask, you are dividing your attention between multiple tasks, which can lead to mistakes and a decrease in productivity.
While it's OK to multi-task on activities that you don't have to really think about (like folding the laundry while catching up with your brother on the phone), when you're working on important tasks and projects that require a focused brain, tend to one task at a time giving it your full attention until it is completed.
