Question
Hi Maria,
Love your newsletter. I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for dealing with hem length with different heel heights? In the office, I wear high heels and aim to have a hem length of my slacks of 1/2 to 1 inch off the floor.
But when I change into my flats to walk to my car, my hems drag on the floor, becoming dirty and eventually ripped. Do you have any suggestions to help?
Thanks!,
Kara Langdon

Hi Kara,
Thanks for your great question. I know exactly what you're talking about because I used to work in New York City where I walked from the Port Authority to my office building.
I'd wear sneakers while walking and then switch to my heels when I arrived at the office, and then switched back to my sneakers when I was ready to walk back to the bus station.
Here are two easy tricks:
1. Use a rubber band. Slide a rubber band over the bottom of each pant leg so it's a bit higher than your ankle. You'll know it's the correct size rubber band if it's comfortable; it should not be restricting blood circulation. Pull the fabric of your pants up and over the rubber band until your pants are at the desired length and the rubber band
can't be seen.
2. Use double-sided fashion tape. Alternately, simply cuff your pants under to the right length when putting on your flats, and secure with
fashion tape along the inside seam. You'll have to do this each time you need to temporarily shorten your
pants.
Hope one of these solutions works for you!
