Many homes in my neighborhood are all decked out with outdoor Halloween decor. The family that lives up the road has really outdone themselves...they've transformed
their front yard into a full-on pirate adventure. It's a pretty amazing display and kudos for all of the effort! It's definitely fun to have something so festive to look at throughout this season.
No doubt, as the leaves continue their colorful transformation, the air takes on a crisp chill, and pumpkins are showing up on many porches, it's time to bid farewell to summer and welcome the cozy comforts of fall.
Fall isn't just a season; it's a state of mind, an opportunity to reset and refresh our lives. Here are some easy ways to make the most of this transformative time.
1. Revamp Your Decor, Indoors and Outdoors: A simple
yet effective way to embrace the spirit of fall is by switching up your decor. Swap out the bright, airy summer colors for warmer, earthier tones.
Incorporate cozy throws, plump cushions, and rustic accents like wooden candle holders and woven baskets.
Don't forget to update your outdoor spaces with fall-themed wreaths, pumpkins, and colorful foliage. Today, I'll be unearthing my family's indoor and outdoor fall and Halloween decor. While we don't go "all out," we'll definitely be achieving
our annual cozy atmosphere.
2. Savor the Flavors of Fall: This fall, instead of sticking to just one variety of apples, embark on a culinary adventure by trying a multitude of varieties, from sweet Honeycrisps to tart Granny Smiths.
I'm looking forward to going apple picking and making my first apple crisp of the season this month.
3. Embrace Fall Makeup Tones: Your makeup routine can be a fun and creative way to transition into fall. Swap out your bright summer shades for warm, earthy tones.
Think rich burgundies, deep plums, and warm terracottas. I actually like blending these shades to create fall-inspired looks.
4. Create Something with Your Own Hands: I find something deeply
satisfying about crafting. Do you?
Whether it's knitting a cozy scarf, painting a fall landscape, or even trying your hand at homemade apple cider, crafting can be therapeutic and
fulfilling.
The fruits of your labor can also make wonderful gifts for loved ones...for birthdays or for the holiday season ahead.
5. Amp Up Your Skincare Routine: As the weather becomes cooler, it's essential to give your skin some extra TLC. Swap out lightweight summer moisturizers for richer, hydrating creams.
Consider adding serums or oils to your routine to combat dryness and keep your skin glowing throughout the fall season.
When I wash my face in the morning, I immediately apply a light moisturizer (while my face is still damp) and then follow with my makeup. In the evening, after washing my face, I apply a thicker moisturizer for smooth skin every morning. 6. Cozy Up in a New Sweater: Is there anything more
comforting than wrapping yourself in a soft, warm sweater on a brisk fall day? Unearth a few cozy knits, or invest in a few, to keep you warm and stylish throughout the season. Opt for classic neutrals or go bold with autumnal hues like deep green, burnt orange, or creamy beige.
My family doesn't turn on the heat too early in our house. We open the windows to allow the fresh air to circulate, and wear a warm sweater if needed to keep cozy and warm.
7. Embark on a Scenic Drive or Train Ride: Fall is the perfect time to explore the beauty of nature's transformation. Take a scenic drive through the countryside, or better yet, hop on a scenic train ride to witness the breathtaking fall foliage.
My husband and I will often take a fall drive to a nearby town, on weekends, this time of the year. We enjoy the various neighborhoods and will often stop to browse in a book store...and then go for a cup of hazelnut or pumpkin-spice coffee at a local cafe.
8. Get Back to Basics with Fall Activities: Engage in classic fall activities like apple picking, pumpkin carving, or making s'mores by a campfire. These timeless traditions are not only fun but also offer a sense of nostalgia and connection with the season.
My friends and I are looking forward to our regular Thursday morning walk...we're doing it at a local corn maze this week!
9. Practice Mindfulness and Gratitude: Fall is a season of reflection and gratitude. Take some time each day to practice mindfulness and appreciate the simple joys of the season, whether it's the sound of leaves crunching beneath your feet or the aroma of freshly baked apple pie filling your home.
And if you're feeling inspired to decorate a little...or even wanting to go a little overboard...follow your heart's desire.
Fall is a season of change and transformation, and it offers countless opportunities for a refreshing reset.
Do what you can to make this season a time of renewal, inspiration, and gratitude.
