I was chatting with a friend, Nina, in the supermarket recently. I mentioned that I was
getting ready to make a big pot of vegetable rice soup for dinner (I love soup during the cold months) and was picking up the necessary ingredients. She said, "I'll just order take out. It's not worth it to cook just for myself."
This friend went through a divorce last year. It wasn't her choice to do so. She lives alone. Her
kids are grown and flown. I know how heartbroken she continues to be over her broken relationship. I hope one day she can begin to heal.
She's not alone in her thinking though. The phrase "It's not worth it just for myself..." (whatever "it" is) is a sentiment many express. It's also a perspective that is worth
challenging.
Investing time and effort in ourselves is not only worthwhile but is an essential aspect of cultivating a strong sense of self-worth.
1. You Deserve the
Best: The first step in recognizing the value of investing in yourself is acknowledging that you deserve the best life has to offer. Whether it's preparing a delicious meal, exploring new hobbies, or embarking on solo adventures, these activities are not frivolous indulgences but rather expressions of self-love. When you invest in yourself, you send a powerful message that your well-being matters.
2. The Power of Solo Adventures: Taking the time to engage in solo activities, such as taking a class, starting a new career, or going on a trip by yourself, is a profound way to reconnect with who you are as an individual. It's a chance to rediscover your interests, passions, and strengths.
3. Building Independence and Confidence: Investing in yourself fosters independence and builds confidence. When you take on challenges, whether big or small, and conquer them on your own, you develop a profound sense of self-reliance. This newfound confidence extends beyond the specific activity at hand and permeates other areas of your life, contributing to a positive self-image and
resilience in the face of adversity.
4. Mindful Living: Engaging in activities that bring you joy and fulfillment is a form of mindful living. It involves being present in the moment,
savoring the experience, and appreciating the richness of life. By consciously investing time in activities that bring you happiness, you create a habit of prioritizing your well-being and cultivating a positive mindset.
5. The Ripple Effect: Investing in yourself not only benefits you directly but also has a positive
ripple effect on your relationships and interactions with others. When you are fulfilled and content, you bring a more authentic and vibrant version of yourself to your interactions. This, in turn, enhances the quality of your relationships and contributes to a more fulfilling social life.
Embrace the idea that you are worth the
investment, and let the journey of self-discovery and fulfillment begin. You are worth every ounce of love in your life, from others...and from yourself.
P.S. Self-love begins by taking care of yourself. This is where my GON GLOW resource comes into play!
