Like many people, alongside my cherished jewelry, I also have a collection of costume pieces
that I enjoying wearing. Costume jewelry, with its affordability and fun factor, offers a unique way to express personal style. However, as these collections expand, so does the challenge of maintaining order.
If you've ever found yourself feeling a bit frustrated with the volume of your collection, or finding the perfect pair of
earrings in the sea of costume jewelry you own, it's a clear sign that it's time to evaluate your collection.
The fundamental principle for a well-organized jewelry collection is to initiate the process by decluttering and making room for the pieces you genuinely love.
1. Choose a Topic: Begin the organizational journey by selecting a specific topic, such as necklaces, bracelets, earrings, or rings.
2. Get it all into Full View: Bring all items related to the chosen
topic into one centralized location. Lay them out on a clean, un-patterned surface for a comprehensive view. Personally, I prefer using a clean white sheet or tablecloth, laid on a table, to see everything at a glance.
3. Decide on What Stays and What Goes: Take a discerning look at each piece and consider whether
you've recently worn it and if it aligns with your future style preferences.
Evaluate factors like length, matching potential, and the formality of each item.
In my case, the predominance of silver over gold significantly influences my decision-making process, since I prefer wearing silver jewelry. Thus, 80% of my collection is silver and only 20% gold.
Be candid with yourself; if a piece is broken, outdated, or no longer
resonates with your style, it's time to bid it farewell.
Create two distinct piles: the "keepers" on the left and the "to go" on the right.
4. Donate and
Organize: Your final step involves donating the "to go" pile and reinstating order among your "keepers." Efficient organization is crucial for easy access to your jewelry.
By following these steps, you not only streamline your costume jewelry collection but also ensure that each piece reflects your current style and brings you
joy. Remember, the goal is not just to organize but to curate a collection that resonates with your unique personality and preferences.
