The Threat of Visitors Prompts Us to Jump Into Action to Clean The House!
Hi
Maria,
Your message about plans going awry (October 15th issue) hit home, once again -- the threat of visitors prompts us to jump into action to clean the house! Our home is always cluttered with papers and different projects and any flat surface is a candidate, be it table or floor. A friend called to ask if she could drop by. This sent us into instant attack mode -- my husband to clean the bathroom and I to clean the kitchen and living room.
We're not lazy people who have an "unsanitary" home. We just don't worry if there's dust on the side table or the dishes pile up.
After everything was tidy, I saw her text that she was going to have to cancel! We just laughed and said, "At least we got the house cleaned!"

One of the Best Christmas Gifts I Gave...
One of the best Christmas gifts I gave my children
and older grandchildren several years ago was a laminated world map. For families with travellers, this was great. You can buy maps and take them to get laminated (or buy pre-laminated on Amazon.)
I bought a cheap frame from from the dollar store, took old puzzle pieces and glued them, overlapping them randomly covering the cheap frame. Very colorful. Then I added a washable marker and cloth (a different color for each family member).
Everyone loved this for reminiscing about trips to Europe, Caribbean and the Americas. Most are hung in the kitchen or family room.
Total cost: about $15 each gift.

One Thing to Consider with a First Aid Kit for Home
One thing to consider with a first aid kit for home is that if you've fallen or injure your legs/feet and you can't get up, nothing in a top cabinet is going to be reachable.
Having some supplies in a lower area could be a life saver.
