Other Uses for Old Tupperware Containers
Hi Maria,
Thanks to Shari, in your February 22nd edition, for her question about old Tupperware. And thanks to you for doing the research and sharing that information with the rest of us. As I was reading your reply, my inner hoarder raised its ugly head,
but then my inner organizer interrupted to insert sense and balance into the conversation.
While it’s true Tupperware was not cheap, and much of it is still in good condition, poor health and the medical expenses that go with it make using old
Tupperware for food a lose-lose proposition.
However, old Tupperware can be used for things other than food. My first thought was for organizing nails, screws,
nuts, and bolts. Buttons and other small sewing notions are another idea. Craft items could be corralled similarly. Smaller pieces could be used for office supplies like pencils and pens, erasers and pencil pillows, paper clips, clamps, extra staples, etc.
Medium sized pieces could hold hair bows, combs, barrettes, and hair clamps. Some sizes could be used for costume jewelry. Larger pieces could organize makeup and lotions; they’re already in containers so the product won’t touch the plastic.
And don’t forget the laundry room, those clothespins need a home. A large bowl might be used for those single socks until their mate shows up.
While my experience has been that the lids were the first to break down, some of them have stood the test of time. So if there’s a good lid without a bowl to go
with it, that could be used as a tray for a potted plant. Some of the larger bowls could also be used as pot plant trays.
Finally, if it’s broken, or there’s no way to repurpose a piece, I will discard it, though it breaks the inner hoarder’s heart.
Thanks again for sharing what you’ve found helpful with us.

A Photo Scanner I Like
I have a suggestion for Tom, from your February 15 issue, about taking care of 50 years of pictures. I bought an Epson FastFoto scanner. It's been a life saver as I've been using it to scan 100s of pictures from over the years.
You can place a pile of pictures into
the tray and the scanner scans them one at a time. You can also sort them into the digital files you set up.

A Cautionary Tale Indeed!
Although I had two storage units! And it was costing a fortune. Only when the cost of the units took a huge leap did i
finally decide that action was needed!
With the help of my daughter and sister, I no longer have any storage units!
I do have a home, attic, and garage that still require a huge amount of work, but I WILL GET THERE!
Thank you for all your help and tips.
