I don't like to wait until typical spring-cleaning time (like when spring is officially
here) to begin my spring cleaning. I'd much rather start my spring cleaning during winter. After all, when spring arrives, along with the warmer weather, I want to be outdoors; not stuck indoors cleaning. Here are some spring cleaning tasks you can begin now.
1. Baseboards: Over time, baseboards accumulate dust and
dirt, detracting from the overall cleanliness of a room. A quick wipe down with a damp cloth or a duster can easily refresh these often-forgotten areas.
2. Vent Covers: Vent covers tend to collect dust and debris, which can affect air quality and the efficiency of your HVAC system. Remove vent covers and vacuum or wash
them with soap and water to improve airflow and reduce allergens in your home.
If you don't have time for all that, at least vacuum them with your vacuum's brush attachment.
3. Stove Backsplash: The area behind your stove can become splattered with grease and food particles, especially if you're an avid cook. Use a grease-cutting cleaner and a sponge to degrease and wipe down this often-neglected space.
4. Ceiling Fans: Dust and dirt can accumulate on the blades of ceiling fans, leading to poor air quality and potential allergens circulating throughout your home. Use a duster with an extendable
handle or a microfiber cloth to clean the blades thoroughly. 5. Light Fixtures: Dust and dead bugs can accumulate on light fixtures, diminishing their brightness and aesthetic appeal. Turn off the power, remove the light fixtures, and
wash them with soap and water to restore their shine and luminosity.
6. Behind Appliances: Dust, crumbs, and pet hair often accumulate behind large appliances like refrigerators and ovens. Move these appliances away from the wall (get help from someone if needed) and vacuum or sweep the area to remove debris and
prevent potential pest infestations.
7. Window Tracks: Dirt, grime (and bugs...yuck!) can build up in the tracks of windows, affecting their functionality and appearance. Use a vacuum with a crevice attachment or a small brush to loosen and remove debris. Then wipe down the tracks with a damp cloth. 8.
Under Furniture: Dust bunnies love to gather under couches, beds, and other furniture. Use a vacuum with a crevice tool to reach these hidden areas and remove accumulated dust and debris.
9. Trash Bins: Trash bins can harbor unpleasant odors and bacteria if not cleaned regularly. Empty the bins, wash them with
soap and water, and sprinkle baking soda inside to neutralize odors before replacing the liners.
10. Door Handles and Light Switches: These high-touch surfaces can harbor germs and bacteria, especially during cold and flu season. Wipe them down with disinfectant wipes or a solution of water and vinegar to keep them
clean and germ-free.
By dedicating some time this month to tackle these often-neglected areas, you can enjoy a cleaner, healthier home environment for you and your family. Plus, you'll be well ahead of the game when spring arrives!
