GON Reader Question
I have been following your newsletter for years and love it. I just helped my mother-in-law organize three rooms in her home and she's so grateful.
We're going to be organizing her clothes closet next. Do you have some ideas for simple closet organizers that might be helpful for her?
I love the look of California Closets and
such, but she's on a budget. So, I'm just looking for some inexpensive organizers to help her find what needs in her current sea of clothes.

Hi Megan,
Thank you for your kindness and for being a loyal follower of my newsletter.
I'm thrilled to hear about your successful organizing projects with your mother-in-law...and good bonding time as well!
When it comes to organizing her clothes closet, starting with decluttering is crucial.
Decluttering helps reduce the number of items to manage and makes it easier to see what storage solutions are truly needed. Encourage her to donate or discard items that no longer fit, are out of style, or haven't been worn in a year.
Once the closet is decluttered, here are some simple and budget-friendly organizing tools that can help:
1. Hanging Shelves: are perfect for storing sweaters, jeans, and other foldable items. Hanging shelves simply hook onto the closet rod and create additional storage space without any installation hassle. 2. Bins and Baskets: Use bins or baskets on closet shelves to group similar items together, making it easier to find what she needs. Label each. 3. Cascading Hangers: Tiered hangers can hold multiple garments, such as skirts or pants, on a single hanger, freeing up rod space. Space-saving hanger hooks allow for maximum storage capacity in a small closer.
4. Speciality
Hangers: If your mother-in-law wears leggings or yoga pants, this legging organizer can be very useful. If she's looking to free up some space in her
dresser drawers, here is a nifty bra organizer. 5. Hooks and Pegs: Install hooks or pegboards inside the closet or on the
closet door to hang items like hats, bags, or jewelry. This helps keep frequently -used items accessible.6. Shelf dividers: will help keep her items sorted into their one space. Shelf dividers are perfect for keeping sweaters in their own section, bed linens in another, etc. By implementing these cost-effective organizing solutions, you can help your mother-in-law transform her closet into a
functional and organized space.
By the way, it's super-sweet of you to be helping her with these projects. I'm sure she appreciates all of your love and efforts!
