GON Reader Question

Hello Maria,

Reading Jan Carlton's letter (January 12 newsletter) about shredding her mother's old paperwork reminded me of the many boxes of papers I need to shred.

An overwhelming task, but her advice (starting with non-sentimental categories, allotting some time each day, etc.) will be very helpful.

I would love a recommendation for a good, sturdy paper shredder that is up to the task!

Hi Diane,

I'm happy to help. The shredder I have is very low-priced, but works beautifully. It's a cross-cut model that can handle up to 8 sheets of paper at a time. It even has a dedicated slot to destroy old credit cards.

It has a good-sized waste container, so it doesn't have to be constantly emptied. It's quiet.

And best of all, this shredder effectively destroys sensitive documents which is great for peace of mind. Hope this helps!
