Happy Election Day! By now, maybe you've already voted early and are cheering on today’s
results. If not, remember to get out there, exercise your right, and make your voice heard.
Voting is a powerful way to make choices about the future—and it turns out, so is organizing your home.
Just like picking a candidate, it’s all about setting priorities, making decisions, and choosing what’s best for you and your space.
So, today, why not bring a little Election Day spirit into your home? Let’s cast some votes for a clutter-free
space and make organizing choices that win.
1. The “Primary” Sort
Every organizing journey needs a strong beginning. Today, choose the one space that needs your
attention the most, whether it's your closet, kitchen pantry, or office nook.
Picture each space “campaigning” for your attention. Maybe the closet is promising you more outfit options, or the pantry vows to cut down on food waste.
Decide which area wins your vote, and start there.
2. Campaign Promises
Just like candidates make campaign promises, each space in your home has its own benefits when you give it the organizing treatment. For example:
Vote for Closet Revamp: More outfits, less time spent hunting for that missing shoe.
Vote for Pantry Purge: Easy-to-find ingredients, healthier meals, and less food waste.
Vote for Desk Declutter: Clear workspace, clear mind—boosted productivity for your
day-to-day.
Set up your “platform” by listing what you hope to gain. Then see those promises fulfilled as you tidy up.
3. Electing Your MVPs (Most Valuable
Possessions)
Time to get selective. Just as a candidate needs to prove their worth, your items should have their own reasons to stay. Go through the things you own and “elect” the MVPs: what truly serves you. A few helpful questions to “screen candidates”:
Does this item serve a purpose in my life?
Do I use it regularly or cherish it for sentimental value?
Would I buy it again
today?
Let those worthy items “win” a spot in your home, and let the rest “retire” elsewhere (donate, recycle, or discard).
4. Debates and
Decision-Making
Just like an election debate, let each item in question “state its case” for why it should stick around. Give yourself a moment with each item to think about its usefulness and joy factor.
You’ll find it easier to make decisions when you give yourself a moment to pause and reflect. If something doesn’t align with your vision for a more organized space, it’s time to say goodbye.
5. The Results Are In!
Congratulations—you’ve just organized like a pro! Step back, admire the “results” of your hard work, and enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with a tidy space. You might even feel that same satisfaction as you do after casting your ballot—a little lighter, clearer, and ready to take on what comes next.
At the end of today, thank yourself for taking the time to “vote” for a home that feels more organized, purposeful, and peaceful. Just like your vote counts toward a better community, your organizing choices create a better, clutter-free space for you.
Happy Election Day 2024, and here’s to both a brighter
tomorrow and a cleaner home today!
