Hi Maria,

My question is, what to do with clothes that are not dirty, but they've been worn? You don't want to put them back in the bureau, since you'll wear them again, but they aren't for the hamper either and you

don't want a big messy pile on a chair. Thank you...and I've been with you for years!

Hi Mary,

First off, thank you so much for being a loyal reader. It always warms my heart to hear from folks who’ve been with me for years.

Let’s tackle this oh-so-common dilemma because I completely understand not wanting to clutter up your room with that “in-between” pile.

Here’s what I recommend:

1. Designate a Closet Section for Re-Wearables
Dedicate a spot in your clothes closet just for these items. Off to one side works perfectly, and to make it even easier to spot, consider hanging them on a different color hanger. That way, you’ll know at a glance what’s been worn but can be worn again.

Add Hooks or a Slim Valet Rack
If you have the wall or floor space, hooks or a slim valet rack can be a great way to hang items like jeans or sweaters. This keeps them off your chair and ready to grab.

Use a “Wear-Again” Bin or Basket
If you prefer to fold these items, a stylish basket or a small bin tucked in your closet can serve as a re-wearables station. This is perfect for clothing like sweatshirts or or yoga pants.

Now, I’ll admit—most of my clothes go into the wash after one wear. I’ve found this keeps things fresh and helps avoid allergens (especially during pollen season) and oils from the skin transferring to fabrics. That said, if I’m wearing a sweater or cardigan over a t-shirt, or something that didn’t directly touch my skin, I’m much more likely to wear it again.

To keep re-wearables feeling fresh, I suggest giving them a quick spritz of fabric refresher or letting them air out on a hanger before storing them. This small step can work wonders.
