What Does the Recirculation Button in Your Car Do?
Have you ever noticed a button in your car with a little car and an arrow looping inside it? That’s the recirculation button, and it controls whether your car pulls in fresh air or reuses the air already inside.
When the button is on, the car recirculates the air inside the
cabin.
– Use this on hot days to help the air conditioner cool faster.
– Use it if you’re stuck behind a smoky truck, passing a skunk, or near a
smelly area—it keeps bad outside air from coming in.
– In cold weather, you can also use it for a few minutes to warm up the car faster.
The
recirculation button works with your car’s air conditioning or heat system. You should have the A/C on during hot weather or the heat on during cold weather to get the most benefit from using the recirculation setting. Without A/C or heat running, the button simply recirculates air without adjusting the temperature.
But
here’s the catch: If you leave it on too long, especially in rainy or cold weather, the windows can fog up because moisture builds up inside the car.
So here’s the simple guide:
Hot day or bad smells?
Turn it ON
Foggy windows or long drives? Turn it OFF
In winter? Use it briefly to warm up, then turn it OFF
Now that mystery button won’t be a mystery anymore!
