How Many Sheets Fit in a Letter Envelope with One Stamp
If you’ve ever tried to cram a multi-page letter into a plain white envelope and hoped a single stamp would do the trick, here’s your answer:
You can typically fit 4 to 5 sheets of standard 20-lb paper in a regular
#10 envelope with one Forever stamp (which covers up to 1 ounce). Add a sixth sheet, and you’re likely tipping into extra postage territory.
Of course, it’s not just about the paper. Enclosures like a return envelope, card stock, or heavier paper (like résumé paper) all increase the weight. A standard sheet of
20-lb paper weighs about 0.16 ounces, so it adds up quickly. If you’re including photos or using thick stationery, it’s smart to check the weight before mailing.
Fun stamp facts:
Forever Stamps were introduced in 2007 and continue to work even after price increases.
A single Forever Stamp can take your letter from Maine to Hawaii or Florida to Alaska—no zones, no surcharges.
And while people sometimes grumble about the current price (now 78 cents), it’s still one of the cheapest ways to send something across the entire country...no app, no battery, just a mailbox and a little square of adhesive.
