DIY Lemon-Scented Drawer Sachets
If your drawers could use a breath of fresh air, these DIY lemon-scented drawer sachets are a fun, simple way to bring in that clean, citrusy scent of late summer. Made with just a few basic materials, these sachets help keep your socks, linens, or even your gym bag smelling fresh and tidy, without any artificial fragrances. Here’s what you’ll need:
½ cup uncooked white rice
Small squares of breathable fabric (muslin, cotton, or an old handkerchief), about 6" x 6" Ribbon, string, or needle and thread to close
A small bowl for mixing
A quick note on the lemon peel: If you
include it, make sure it’s completely dry. You can dry your own peel at home or, for convenience, pick some up in the spice aisle of many grocery stores, where it’s often sold in small jars labeled “dried lemon peel” or “lemon zest.” Just be sure it’s pure lemon peel without added salt or sugar.
Where to find lemon
essential oil: Lemon essential oil is widely available at health food stores, online retailers like Amazon, or even in the essential oil section at Target, Walmart, or craft stores. Look for one labeled 100% pure lemon essential oil for the best scent and longevity.
How to make your
sachet:
1. In a bowl, combine the rice and dried lemon peel.
2. Add the lemon essential oil and stir well to evenly distribute. Let it
sit for 5–10 minutes so the oil soaks into the rice.
3. Spoon 2–3 tablespoons of the mixture into the center of your fabric square.
4. Gather the
fabric edges and tie closed with ribbon or string or sew it shut to make a small pillow.
5. Place in drawers, closets, or tote bags for a burst of citrus every time you open them.
Each sachet keeps its scent for about 2–3 months.
