The Shifting Seasons of "I Do"
While June has long been associated with weddings, October has recently taken the lead as the most popular wedding month in the U.S. In 2024, 17% of weddings took place in October, followed by 15% in September and 12% in June. This shift is credited to cooler temps, fall foliage, and the cozy, romantic atmosphere that autumn offers.
That’s a big change from tradition! For generations, June was the go-to wedding month. The roots go back to ancient Rome, when couples wed in June to honor Juno, the goddess of marriage and childbirth. There were also practical reasons—warmer weather meant cleaner people (thanks to spring bathing), and a June wedding left time for a summer birth before the fall harvest.
While Saturdays are still the most popular day to tie the knot, Fridays and Sundays are gaining popularity, especially for those planning weekend-long celebrations or looking to stretch the budget.
Still, June holds its charm, and
as we move through the heart of wedding season, there's something extra special about a summertime ceremony surrounded by sunshine, flowers, and the joy of fresh beginnings.
