Power Word: Hearth
There’s
something deeply comforting about the word hearth. It’s more than just the brick or stone area surrounding a fireplace. It’s a symbol of home itself.
The hearth once served as the beating heart of the household, where fires were kept burning day
and night. Meals were cooked there, stories were shared, and families gathered for warmth and light.
Before modern heating and electricity, tending the hearth meant tending to the family’s well-being. It was the place where life happened; where bread
was baked, soup simmered, and conversations lingered long after the day’s work was done.
Even today, when many homes no longer have fireplaces, the idea of the hearth still holds meaning. It represents comfort, togetherness, and belonging. For some, the kitchen might now be the modern-day hearth...a space where everyone
naturally gravitates, even when there’s nothing cooking.
For others, it might be the living room, where favorite blankets, pets, and family gather around a glowing TV or candlelight. And for some, the hearth may not be a physical spot at all, but a
feeling...a place in the heart where love, safety, and familiarity reside.
Take a moment today to think about where your hearth is. It could be the cozy chair by a sunny window where you sip your morning coffee, the dinner table where laughter echoes, or even your front porch, where you watch the world go
by.
Wherever it is, honor it. Keep it warm, keep it welcoming, and let it remind you that home isn’t just a structure. It’s the warmth we create and share within it.
