When the Leaves Turn
Where I
live in Wisconsin, the trees are just beginning to change. Driving down the road, I’ve noticed hints of gold in the birches and splashes of red peeking out from the maples. It feels like the whole landscape is slowly shifting into something cozy and beautiful, like the world is putting on a quilt for the season ahead.
There’s something comforting about watching the colors deepen day by day. It’s a reminder that change doesn’t happen all at once. It unfolds quietly, and often beautifully, if we take the time to notice.
Did you know that those brilliant reds, oranges, and yellows have been hiding in the leaves
all along? During summer, chlorophyll masks them with green, but as the days grow shorter, the green fades and the other pigments finally shine through.
Some of the brightest reds come from sugars trapped in the leaves, while oaks tend to hold onto
their leaves longer, turning rich shades of brown.
Wisconsin’s cool nights and sunny days in fall are the perfect recipe for especially vivid colors.
The next time you step outside and see those first brilliant leaves, pause and take it in.
If you live where the seasons don’t put on this kind of show, let
this be a reminder to look for other signs of change around you...a shift in the air, the way the light falls, or even the small routines that mark the season. Beauty is always there when we pause long enough to notice it.

Here's what just one GON reader had to say...
"Reading your newsletter about cleaning together hit so close to home. My
husband and I have definitely had those moments where the tension rises instead of the dust disappearing!
I tried a couple of the points you suggested, like dividing tasks more fairly and taking short breaks, and it made such a
difference. We actually laughed while cleaning the kitchen last weekend instead of snapping at each other.
Thank you for the gentle reminders and practical tips. They’ve helped bring a little more peace (and a lot more teamwork)
into our home."
