The Glow of Candles

There’s
something magical about the glow of a candle. That small, steady flame can instantly transform a room, making it feel cozy, romantic, or even prayerful. Candles have come a long way from the simple paraffin tapers many of us grew up with.

Today,
there are soy candles, which burn cleaner and longer; beeswax candles, with their natural honey-like aroma; and even flameless LED candles, which offer the flicker without the worry. Whatever your mood or your home’s style, there’s a candle for it.  If
you’ve ever noticed your candle jars getting black around the rim, that’s soot buildup. The easiest way to prevent this is to keep your wick trimmed to about ¼ inch before each burn. A shorter wick helps the flame stay controlled and reduces smoke. Placing candles away from drafts also makes a difference. Gusts can make flames dance wildly, producing more soot.

And when it’s time to put your candle out, blowing it isn’t the best choice. That puff of air can scatter soot and hot wax. Instead, use a snuffer.

Candles remind us that light isn’t just about function. It's about atmosphere and meaning.
Whether it’s the warm glow during dinner, the calming scent of lavender before bed, or the convenience of a flameless flicker on a shelf, candles bring a quiet beauty into our lives.

The right glow can lift your spirits, make your home more inviting,
and add a touch of peace to even the busiest of days.

"Thank you for your piece, The Chores Never End (August 9th issue). I really needed to read something like this, as the drudgery of daily routines has been bothering me for a while.
I've been a subscriber since the late '90s and love your posts and articles about organization. Keep up the great work! Sincerely,"
