The Birth of a Visionary

On
this day in 1881, Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga, Spain...a man whose creativity shaped the course of modern art. Over his 91 years, Picasso produced an astonishing 50,000 pieces of work, including paintings, sculptures, ceramics, and sketches. That’s an average of more than one piece every single day of his life!  What many people don’t know is that Picasso’s full
name is a marathon in itself: Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paula Juan Nepomuceno Crispín Crispiniano María Remedios de la Santísima Trinidad Ruiz Picasso. His parents honored countless saints and relatives in that long string of names.

He was also a master of reinvention. His art evolved through distinct periods...the Blue Period, filled with melancholy and emotion; the Rose Period, warmer and more hopeful; and later, Cubism, which shattered traditional perspective and changed how we see the world.

Picasso once said, “It took me four years to paint like Raphael, but a lifetime to paint like a child.”

Beyond the galleries and the fame, Picasso’s life was about curiosity. He had an unending hunger to explore and to see differently. He
didn’t wait for inspiration to strike; he created daily and trusted the process.

Today, his legacy is a reminder that art and life are meant to be lived boldly, not neatly. So whatever you’re making, tidying, or dreaming up today, channel a
little Picasso energy: experiment, explore, and let your creative mess turn into something extraordinary.
